About BuildPermitGuide

Free, source-linked permit research for homeowners, contractors, and real estate investors.

Our Mission

BuildPermitGuide exists because building permit information in the U.S. is needlessly fragmented and difficult to find. Every city has different fees, different forms, and different rules — and they're often buried on hard-to-navigate government websites.

We research, verify, and organize official permit data into a clear, consistent format so homeowners, contractors, and real estate investors can find what they need in minutes instead of hours.

What We Cover

We currently cover permit fees, requirements, and application links for 5 major U.S. cities across 9+ common residential project types. We're expanding to 50+ cities over the coming months.

Editorial Standards

Every fee and requirement on this site links to an official government source — city building department websites, municipal code databases, or official fee schedules. We never publish unverified information.

Data is reviewed periodically and dated clearly. Building permit rules change — we recommend always confirming with your local building department before starting any project.
